Minutes of the September 7, 2000 meeting at IHSAA headquarters

 

PRESENT

MINUTES

Minutes of the Aug. 21, 2000 hearings were presented for approval. A motion for approval was made by Cecil Raymond; seconded by Dan Cunningham; motion passed 5-0.

HEARINGS

A hearing was conducted to consider the appeal of Robert Vaughn, a student at Evansville Mater Dei High School. The student had been declared ineligible on the basis of Rule 19-4. A hearing was requested in order to appeal the ruling and seek full eligibility. Following the hearing, the student and the IHSAA were offered an opportunity to submit findings of fact. Having analyzed all of the available data, Janis Qualizza made a motion to uphold the decision of the Commissioner; seconded by Mike Necessary; motion passed 5-0.

A hearing was conducted to consider the appeal of Matthew Parish, a student at Carroll (Fort Wayne) High School. The student had been declared to have limited eligibility on the basis of Rule 19-5.2. A hearing was requested in order to appeal the ruling and seek full eligibility. Following the hearing, the student and the IHSAA were offered an opportunity to submit findings of fact. Having analyzed all of the available data, Dan Cunningham made a motion to uphold the decision of the Commissioner, but requested that the issue be revisited prior to the beginning of the winter sports season; seconded by Mike Blackburn; motion passed 5-0.

A hearing was conducted to consider the appeal of Maren Borsdamn, a foreign exchange student at South Vermillion High School. The student had been declared to have limited eligiblity on the basis of Rule 19-6.2. A hearing was requested in order to appeal the ruling and seek full eligibility. Following the hearing, the student and the IHSAA were offered an opportunity to submit findings of fact. Having analyzed all of the available data, Janis Qualizza made a motion to uphold the decision of the Commissioner; seconded by Cecil Raymond; motion passed 5-0.

A hearing was conducted to consider the appeal of Troy Fields, a student at Western Boone High School. The student had been declared to ineligible for the football season with full eligibility thereafter on the basis of Rule 19-4. A hearing was requested in order to appeal the ruling and seek full eligibility. Following the hearing, the student and the IHSAA were offered an opportunity to submit findings of fact. Having analyzed all of the available data, Mike Blackburn made a motion to uphold the decision of the Commissioner; seconded by Cecil Raymond; motion passed 5-0.

A hearing was conducted to consider the appeal of Freddy Bravo, a foreign exchange student at Rushville High School. The student had been declared ineligible on the basis of Rule 13-1. A hearing was requested in order to appeal the ruling and seek full eligibility. Following the hearing, the student and the IHSAA were offered an opportunity to submit findings of fact. Having analyzed all of the available data, Janis Qualizza made a motion to uphold the decision of the Commissioner; seconded by Dan Cunningham; motion passed 5-0.
